We moved to a new house which has a greenhouse - this blog will plot my attempts to grow things; I haven't used a greenhouse before, or grown anything much (excepting houseplants and a few garden flowers) so it all seems a bit complicated. I'm hoping to be able to grow some tomatoes, peppers and flowers, at least.

Yesterday I cleaned it, would have done that, anyway, but have learned that a greenhouse needs to be cleaned four times a year in order to prevent disease, etc- seems like common sense to give it a good clean before putting in plants. Quite a lot of mildew/algae-like stuff had developed during the winter, and the chickens used it for recreation during the winter, too, so it needed an especially good clean. Took quite a lot of effort to shift the mildew - I used vinegar and washing up liquid in a spray bottle and let it all soak for five minutes after which I scrubbed it all loose with a washing up brush and finally hosed it down.

The previous occupants kindly left us a propagator... don't have a clue as to what to do with it, tho'. They also left some planters, hanging baskets, plant tubs and bamboo poles along with an assortment of pest remedies and netting, so we are well set up to be able to grow something!

I'm washing out all the accumulated plant-pots, of which we have collected a lot over the years...how much money spent in garden centres on plants of which there is no longer a trace, I dread to think...to be fair, though, most have been left behind in house moves along the way.

I've planted some Busy Lizzie seeds in a seed tray indoors, and a few have germinated so far...

Perhaps I did something wrong with the sweet peas seeds as there is only one seedling to date...

I have plenty of seeds, and a new watering can head...the greenhouse has a watering system, but we haven't figured it out yet.

We bought some seedlings - geranium (but it's too early to put them into the greenhouse yet, I am told, because they are susceptible to frost, and it might be frosty of a morning for a while yet) - Italian plum tomato, red and green bell peppers. Some grow-bags and trays...it can't go wrong, methinks, anyone can grow a tomato in a grow-bag (or so I am told).
